
Today, July 15th, thousand of tourist have opportunity to witness royal cremation. Two members of the royal family, Tjokorda Agung Gede Suyasa and Tjokorda Gede Raka, cremated as well as up to eighty Ubud residents. Within the Ubud Palace walls there has been a huge amount of activity. Streams of women, dressed in kebaya (traditional blouse) and sarong, have been pouring into the inner grounds to help with the activities. The center of town has, in fact, become a bustling eco-friendly bamboo jungle of sorts, a rustic-style atmosphere bathed in a soft filtered light.

Bali Culture Festival 2008 runs from 14 June - 12 July 2008. The theme from this year festival is Citta Wretti Nirodha, meaning “self control leading to balance and harmony”. The major events of the festival include a cultural parade, performances, contests and parades, exhibitions, and symposiums. It will also coincide with several other national and international events.

The village of Trunyan is closely clamped between the lake and the outer rim of the crater Batur, an almighty Kintamani volcano. It is a Bali Aga village, inhabited by descendants of the original Balinese, people who predate the arrival of Hindu Majapahit kingdom in the 16th century. It is famous for Pura Pancering Jagat temple, but unfortunately visitors are not allowed inside. There is also a traditional couple Bali Aga-style housing, and a large Banyan Tree, which is said to be over 1100 years. In sub-Kuban village near Trunyan is a mysterious cemetery that is separated by the lake and accessible only by boat - there is no path along steep walls of the crater rim.
